Jeremy Corbyn visits SHOCMonday 15th January 2018
Staff members and clients at Slough Homeless Our Concern were treated to a very special visit yesterday afternoon, as Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn MP and Slough MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi popped by.
Jeremy and Tan chatted – and listened – to the clients, as they expressed some of the issues surrounding homelessness. The visit follows the recent high-profile story surrounding homelessness in nearby Windsor, and at a time when SHOC’s permanent base is potentially under threat.
The Leader of the Opposition held a mini pop-up surgery over tea and biscuits; listening to current clients, as well as SHOC staff member Vicky Cheeseman. We were also joined by workers from Windsor, as the area continues to receive national media coverage.
Either side of the serious conversations, Jeremy was laughing and joking with the clients; with chats ranging from holidays in Jamaica to his Spanish-speaking cat ‘El Gato’. The place was abuzz as he left to catch the train back to London, and comes at a time when homelessness charities need all of the support that they can get.
