Eyup. I’m Matt Abbott; a 27-year-old poet based in West Yorkshire.
I started a few weeks before my 18th birthday, and so far my career has ranged from a major label music career to political activism, teaching workshops in primary schools, fundraising for homelessness and producing several national spoken word projects.
Last summer, I released my début spoken word album, which was released to support my debut Edinburgh Fringe show, which attracted five star reviews and full houses.
In summer 2013, I co-founded A Firm Of Poets; now a nationally recognised spoken word organisation.
Our current projects include a monthly night in Wakefield called Unity Words, and a 22-date national theatre tour ‘Ossett Observer presents: The People’s Republic of Poetry’ from Sep-Dec 2015.
I also regularly deliver poetry and spoken word workshops to groups ranging from primary school pupils to asylum seekers, and am happy to work on a project-by-project basis around the country.
I’m also an active socialist and am currently on the #KeepCorbyn tour, which follows some #JC4PM dates earlier this year.
I am also an ambassador for Trinity.
